- The Execution
Back in 2004, some friends asked me to create the logo and business cards for their startup business Monsoon Events.
The brief was to create something 'funky' and 'fresh', while respecting the heritage of the cultural background (Indian) from which their business was forged, and which it was focused on marketing to.
I decided to create the main letters of the ME anagram from scratch in Freehand, as if they were part of a larger bespoke font. Drawing inspiration from traditional Hindi letter-types (and incorporating the actual Hindi characters for "M" and "E" as a small superscript above the English characters), and using colours symbolically important in traditional Indian culture (khaki green to denote 'earth' and 'soil', red to denote 'fire' and 'passion'), a small number of variations were produced in consultation with the business partners, before this final logo was agreed on.
The logo was saved in various high-resolution formats for subsequent marketing use, and a business card template was created using the logo and a 'fresh' (blue gradiant) + 'symbolic' (blue spiral) background to allow the business partners to print the business cards themselves as needed using appropriate, high quality, pre-perforated business card printing stock from Officeworks.
